The necessary documents when applying for the Golden Visa program

Confirmation of investment.

Tax identification number in Portugal.

Tax identification number of the country where the investor is a tax resident (notarized copy of the tax number with an apostille).

Certificate of no criminal record in the investor's country of origin and in other countries of residence for the last 5 years with an apostille (valid for only 3 months from the date of issue).

Passport or another valid identification document.

Residence permit for the whole family

The applicant is entitled to apply for a "Golden Visa" for the entire family, but there are certain conditions such as family ties, age, marital status, and so on.
Spouse
Married or in a civil partnership. In the case of a civil partnership, it is necessary to provide evidence such as: common children, joint real estate, a joint bank account, and a common residential address.
Children
"Golden Visa" is automatically processed for children under 18 years old. After the age of 18, it is processed if the children are enrolled in higher education institutions, unmarried, and financially dependent on the applicant.
Parents
"Golden Visa" is automatically processed for the parents of either spouse if they are over 65 years old. For parents under 65 years old, evidence is required to show that they are financially dependent on the applicant, such as proof of the parents' residency at the applicant's address, monthly bank transfers to the parents' account, health certificates, etc.
Brothers and sisters
"Golden Visa" is processed for the brothers and sisters of either spouse if they are under 18 years old and under the care of the applicant. In this case, a court decision appointing guardianship over the underage relative should be presented.

Rights and responsibilities

An investor with a ‘golden visa’ has the right:

To apply for citizenship in Portugal after 5 years of holding a residence permit. This period also includes the waiting time for the initial residence permit.
To travel within the Schengen Zone visa-free.
To have legal employment and/or conduct business in Portugal.
To apply for a residence permit for the entire family.
To have state medical insurance.
To have access to education for oneself or family members in both public and private educational institutions.

An investor with a ‘golden visa’ is obligated to:

To spend a minimum of 14 days in the country during each two-year period of the ‘Golden Visa’.
To maintain investment activity for a period of 5 years.
